Hi, I’m Amanda Grace Guilfoyle- but most people call me Mandy. I’m a cellist, teacher, and the founder of Guilfoyle Strings, where I help string students grow into confident, expressive musicians through a mix of compassion, structure, and good old-fashioned hard work.
I’ve been teaching for over 16 years and performing for more than two decades. I hold a B.A. in Music from Southern Methodist University (where I studied under cello soloist Andrés Díaz), an M.M. in Music Education, and an Executive MBA in Strategic Leadership. My path has taken me from playing in symphonies like the Fort Smith Symphony and Dallas Pops, to performing aboard the Queen Mary 2, to running youth orchestra programs and teaching in both public schools and private studios.
But no matter where I’ve worked, one thing has stayed the same: I believe in teaching with empathy, curiosity, and care. I want every student to feel seen, supported, and inspired to keep growing- both in music and in life.
Today, I teach private lessons and group classes in Spring, TX, and I create resources for string students, parents, and teachers across the country.
Whether it’s through cello ensembles like The Bow Frogs, fiddle groups like Texas Fiddle Club, or one-on-one lessons, I’m here to help musicians feel connected, capable, and excited about what’s next.
🎶 I run a concert series called Wild Notes, which brings classical music to state and national parks across the U.S.- yep, we play Beethoven under the trees.
🧵 When I’m not teaching, I’m probably sewing! I love making clothes, bags, wallets, and other fun handmade creations.
🐶 I share my home (and sometimes my lessons) with Odie, my redbone coonhound. He’s loud (hound life!) but sweet as can be.
🏰 I’m a lifelong Disney World fan, having grown up just a short drive away in St. Pete, FL. I still get excited over Dole Whip and fireworks at the castle.
🎻 I play cello (and violin and viola), of course- but also dabble in piano, ukulele, bass, and banjo.
🌱 I’m a vegetarian who loves the beach, the forest, and just about any chance to be outside in nature.
